Cropping a PDF Does Not Delete the Cropped Part: Hide Sensitive Information Another Way

Published: Oct 19, 2026 | Updated: Oct 19, 2026 | About (Japanese)

Key points
  • Know that the cropped part remains
  • Remove pages you do not want shown
  • If needed, turn pages into images and save again

Even after you crop a PDF, the cropped content is still inside the file. Only the visible area becomes smaller; the data itself is not deleted.

Why it remains

Cropping a PDF changes the setting that says how much to display. The text and images outside the frame are saved as they were. If someone widens the frame in other software or extracts the content, it can be seen.

When there is information you do not want shown

  1. Remove whole pages: delete pages you do not want shown with Extract or Delete PDF Pages.
  2. Turn pages into images and save again: use PDF to Images to make images, then Photos to PDF to return to a PDF. Once they are images, the text and original data do not remain. Anything visible in the image is still visible, though.
  3. Fix the source: removing the information from the original file and recreating the PDF is the most reliable way.

Uses cropping is good for

These are for tidying up how it looks.

Information that would cause trouble if seen, such as addresses and numbers, cannot be hidden by cropping. Always remove it another way before sending.
