Trim First: Cropping Before Shrinking an Image
Key points
- Cropping unneeded parts lightens it without losing quality
- Then shrink with "Compress & Resize Images"
- Keep the original
Image file size grows with the number of pixels. Reducing the area shown lightens it without losing quality.
Steps
- In "Crop & Rotate Image", crop to just the part you need and save.
- In "Compress & Resize Images", choose the cropped image.
- Choose size and quality, and compress.
When it helps
- When a document photo has a lot of desk or background around it
- When you only need part of a landscape
Notes
- Cropping can't be undone later, so keep the original.
- Compressing before cropping can degrade quality twice. The order is "crop → compress".
