How to Check and Remove the Author and Title in a PDF (Free, Works on a Phone)
Key points
- Choose a PDF and view what it stores
- Choose "Remove everything" or "Replace"
- Save the PDF
Besides what you see on the pages, a PDF stores information (properties) such as the author, title, software and dates. With View and Remove PDF Properties you can check what it stores, then remove or replace it.
Steps
- Tap "Choose a PDF" and select one PDF.
- The title, author, subject, keywords, software, converter, dates and number of annotations are shown.
- Choose "What to do".
- Remove everything: removes all the stored properties. The dates go too.
- Replace with the values above: replaces them with what is in the fields above. A field you leave empty is removed.
- To remove comments and markup as well, choose "Remove (keep links)".
- Tap "Create the PDF" and save it.
The original is not changed
Your original PDF stays as it is. A new PDF is saved separately.
Text and images written on the pages stay as they are. If a name or address is inside the pages, use Black Out (Redact) Parts of a PDF.
Use "View and Remove PDF Properties (Author, Title)" (free)
Tools that go well with this
- Black Out (Redact) Parts of a PDF: Drag over the parts of a PDF you want to hide and black them out. Redacted pages become images, so the text underneath is gone.
- Compress PDF: Shrink a PDF to fit under a size you choose, for upload limits.
- Extract or Delete PDF Pages: Keep only the pages you need, or remove the pages you don't.
