Published: Oct 19, 2026 | Updated: Oct 19, 2026 | About (Japanese)

Key points
  • The usual size is 40 mm tall by 30 mm wide
  • Bright place, facing front, plain background
  • For a phone photo, crop with your face centered

The photo on a resume shapes the first impression. Here are the basics.

Size

The usual size on a Japanese resume is 40 mm tall by 30 mm wide, a 4:3 (tall) ratio.

Shooting tips

Using a phone photo

  1. Shoot from the front at a little distance. Selfies tend to distort the face.
  2. Crop it to a 4:3 (tall) ratio with Crop & Rotate Image, with your face centered.
  3. Choose the cropped photo in "Choose a photo" in Create a Resume PDF.
An iPhone photo in HEIC format may fail to load. In that case, convert it to JPG first with Convert HEIC to JPG.

Image quality

Avoid extremely small images so the face does not look blurry. As a guide, use at least 600 pixels wide.

If you used a photo booth or studio

If you can get the data, use it. If you only have a paper print, you can digitize it with Photos to PDF or your phone's scan feature.
