Protecting Personal Data When Making a Resume Online
Key points
- Choose a tool that does not send what you type to a server
- Do not save drafts on a shared computer
- Double-check the recipient when sending
A resume contains plenty of personal data: name, address, phone, date of birth and a face photo. When using an online tool, check how your data is handled.
What to check
- Is what you type sent to a server? Tools that do may require sign-up or keep your data.
- Is registration needed? Not needing it means fewer chances to hand over information.
- How are ads and external services handled? The privacy policy tells you.
In this tool
Create a Resume PDF processes what you type and your photo only inside the browser on your device. No sign-up is needed. See the Privacy Policy for details.
On a shared computer
- Do not use the draft save. The next person might see your entries.
- Delete the PDF from the computer when you are done.
- Clear the browser history if needed.
When sending
- Double-check the recipient's email address.
- Check that you attached the right file.
- Add a password only when the company asks.
Information you do not have to write
In the resume template shown by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2021, the gender field became optional and the fields for commuting time, dependents and spouse were removed. In this tool you can also choose to leave gender out.
Write your history and qualifications exactly as they are.
