Tips for a Readable Business Card: Text Size, Color and Space
Key points
- Make the name the largest text
- Stick to one color
- Do not cram the space
A business card is small, so too much information makes it hard to read.
Text size
- Make the name the largest, then the title, and the contact lines the smallest.
- Do not make the contact lines too small. Printed, they look harder to read than expected.
Color
- Sticking to one color is the safest.
- You can choose from six colors in Create Business Cards / Name Cards. When unsure, navy or teal gives a calm impression.
- Near-black text on a white background keeps readability.
White space
- Do not pack the text; leave space around it.
- A top band or side stripe is optional. When unsure, "none" or "left stripe" looks clean.
Typeface
- Sans: clear and modern.
- Serif: calm and a bit formal.
For club or hobby cards, sans is a safe choice.
Alignment
- Left: easy to read and tidy.
- Center: suits name tags and simple cards.
Do a test print
It looks different on screen and on paper. Before the real run, print one sheet and check the text size and color.
