黒い四角を重ねただけでは危ない：PDFの黒塗りの正しいやり方

PDFに「黒い四角」を描いて、見せたくない部分を隠したつもりでも、下の文字が残っていることがあります。
なぜ残るのか
多くのソフトでは、黒い四角は、文字の上に重ねて描かれるだけです。文字のデータそのものは、四角の下に残っています。
- 黒塗りの部分を、ドラッグしてコピーすると、下の文字が出てくることがあります。
- 別のソフトで開き、四角を動かしたり消したりすると、文字が見えることがあります。
- 検索で、隠したはずの言葉が見つかることがあります。
確実に隠す方法
ページを画像にして、黒い四角ごと、1枚の絵にしてしまいます。画像になれば、下の文字のデータは、ファイルに残りません。
PDFの一部を黒塗りする は、この方法で黒塗りします。黒塗りしたページは画像になり、そのページの文字は、選択・検索できなくなります。
黒塗りしていないページは？
黒塗りしていないページは、そのままです。文字の選択・検索も、使えます。
確かめるときのポイント
- 保存したPDFを開きます。
- 黒塗りの上を、なぞって文字を選択してみます。選択できなければ、残っていません。
- 検索で、隠した言葉を探して、見つからないことを確かめます。

Even if you draw a "black box" over a PDF to hide something, the text underneath may still be there.
Why it remains
In many programs, a black box is just drawn on top of the text. The text data itself is still under the box.
- If you drag over the black area and copy, the text underneath may appear.
- If you open the file in other software and move or delete the box, the text may become visible.
- Searching may find the words you meant to hide.
A reliable way to hide it
Turn the page into an image, so the black box and the page become one picture. Once it is an image, the data for the text underneath is not kept in the file.
Black Out (Redact) Parts of a PDF redacts this way. Redacted pages become images, and their text can no longer be selected or searched.
What about pages you did not redact?
Pages you did not redact stay as they are. Selecting and searching text still work on them.
How to check
- Open the saved PDF.
- Drag to select text over the black area. If you cannot select it, it is not there.
- Search for the words you hid and confirm they are not found.
