Fixing Problems with a Combined PDF: Orientation, Order and Tiny Text
Key points
- Rotate the original PDF if orientation is off
- Switch between across and down for order
- If it is too small, use fewer pages per sheet
Causes and fixes when Combine PDF Pages onto One Sheet doesn't give the result you expected.
1. Pages have mixed orientations
If the original PDF mixes landscape or rotated pages, the result can look untidy.
- First fix the orientation with Rotate & Reorder PDF Pages.
- Then combine again.
2. Page order is not what you expected
- Try switching the order. "Across" and "Down" change the reading order.
- If the original order is wrong, reorder it first.
3. Too small to read
- Use fewer pages per sheet (9 to 4, 4 to 2, and so on).
- Setting the margin to "Small" makes pages a bit larger.
- For text-heavy documents, stay at 2-up or fewer.
4. Edges are cut off when printed
- Set the margin to "Normal".
- Check that printing is at actual size (100%).
5. Pages of different sizes are mixed
They can still be combined. Each page is shrunk to fit its slot. But mixed sizes can make the layout look uneven.
6. The file won't load
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported. Remove the password and try again.
- Damaged PDFs or unsupported formats also fail.
7. The file is too large
Documents with hundreds of pages or lots of images can be slow or stall. Try in several smaller batches, or shrink it first with Compress PDF.
