Business Card Size and Tips for Printing and Cutting at Home or a Store
Key points
- The standard card is 91×55 mm
- Print on A4 at actual size (100%)
- Cut with a ruler and cutter, or a paper trimmer
Business cards have an almost fixed size, so they fit neatly in a wallet or card case.
Standard size
A Japanese business card is generally 55 mm tall by 91 mm wide. On A4 they fit 10 per page, in 2 columns by 5 rows.
Print settings
- Set the paper to A4.
- Set the scale to 100% (actual size). Turn off "fit to paper" and "fit to page".
- Follow your printer's settings for margins. The PDF from this tool leaves margins on all four sides.
Choosing paper
- Plain paper works, but it feels thin and flimsy.
- A slightly thicker paper (heavy or matte) feels more like a real card.
- Check that your printer supports thick paper.
Cutting tips
- A paper trimmer gives straight cuts.
- Without one, use a ruler and a cutter along the cut lines, on a cutting mat.
- Scissors tend to wander off the line, so they are not recommended.
Printing at a convenience store
You can print the PDF on A4 with a convenience store's print service. Paper types and steps differ by service, and thick paper is often not available.
If the file is large
If images make it heavy, shrink it with Compress PDF.
