What Students and Clubs Should Put on a Card, and What Not to Overshare
Key points
- Name, group and contact are the basics
- It is safer not to include an address
- Email or a social ID is enough for contact
A student's card is not held to the strict conventions of a business card. Still, think carefully about what goes on it.
What to include
- Affiliation: university and faculty, club name
- Name: add a reading or romaji if your name is easily misread.
- Title: your role in the club, such as president, treasurer or publicity.
- Contact: email address or a social media ID.
What to leave off
- Home address: the card may reach people you do not know.
- Phone number: you do not need it unless necessary.
- Date of birth: normally not on a card.
Choosing contacts
- A separate email address for job hunting or the club is recommended.
- If your social account is full of private posts, people can see things you would rather not share. Use an account you are happy to make public.
How many to print
Start with about 10 to 20. If you rarely hand them out, a large run goes unused.
About titles
Write titles such as "president" or "leader" exactly as your real role. Do not write a title that does not match reality.
