Extract Pages vs. Split PDF: What's the Difference?
Key points
- Want one PDF with the pages you need → Extract
- Want several PDFs → Split
- Neither sends your PDF anywhere
There are two similar tools, so here is a guide for choosing.
Extract or Delete Pages
The result is one PDF. Tap pages to select them and choose "Keep" or "Delete" to build one new PDF.
- Example: submit only 3 pages out of a 30-page document
- Example: drop blank pages and the cover
Split PDF
The result is several PDFs. Split by "One page each", "Every N pages" or "By ranges", and save them all together as a ZIP.
- Example: several documents were scanned into one file and you want them separated
- Example: send a PDF in halves because of an email size limit
Rule of thumb
- One PDF to submit → Extract
- Separate PDFs for different recipients → Split
- Several files from the same PDF → Split
Summary
Use extract to "take out just the part you need", and split to "divide into several files".
