「領収書に収入印紙を貼るのを忘れていた」という話は、よくあります。電子の領収書だと、どうなるのでしょうか。

紙の領収書の場合

商品やサービスの代金（売上代金）を受け取ったときに、紙で渡す領収書は、受け取った金額が5万円以上だと、収入印紙が必要になるのが原則です。金額に応じて、印紙の額が決まっています（たとえば、5万円以上100万円以下なら、200円です）。

電子（PDFなど）の場合

メールでPDFを送るなど、データで渡す領収書は、印紙税の課税対象にならないとされています。そのため、印紙を貼る必要はありません。国税庁も、そのような考え方を示しています。

気をつけたいこと

印刷して渡すと、紙になります。 PDFで作っても、印刷して手渡す場合は、紙の領収書として扱われ、印紙が必要になることがあります。
金額が5万円未満なら、そもそも対象外です。
受け取る側の事情は別です。 相手が、紙の領収書をほしがる場合は、その点を先に話し合っておくと安心です。

"I forgot to put a revenue stamp on a receipt" is a common story. What about electronic receipts?

Paper receipts

When you receive payment for goods or services and hand over a paper receipt, a revenue stamp is in principle required if the amount received is 50,000 yen or more. The stamp value depends on the amount (for example, 200 yen for 50,000 to 1,000,000 yen).

Electronic receipts (PDF and similar)

A receipt delivered as data, such as a PDF sent by email, is considered not subject to stamp tax, so no stamp is needed. The National Tax Agency has expressed this view.

Points to watch

Printing turns it into paper. Even if you make it as a PDF, handing over a printout is treated as a paper receipt and may need a stamp.
Under 50,000 yen, it is not subject to the tax at all.
The recipient's situation is separate. If the other person wants a paper receipt, it is safer to discuss it first.
