How to Write Ranges for Splitting a PDF (e.g. 1-3, 4-5, 6-)
Key points
- Separate with commas to make one PDF per range
- "6-" means page 6 to the end
- A single page is just the number
Basic forms
- "1-3": pages 1 to 3
- "5": page 5 only
- "6-": page 6 to the end
- "-4": from the start to page 4
Separate multiple ranges with commas (,).
Example
For a 30-page PDF, entering "1-3, 4-10, 11-" makes three PDFs.
- First: pages 1–3
- Second: pages 4–10
- Third: pages 11–30
Notes
- Numbers beyond the page count cause an error.
- Ranges may overlap (e.g. "1-5, 3-8").
- Full-width digits and commas are also understood.
When you get an error
- Commas are missing, as in "1-3 4-5"
- "0" or a number larger than the page count
- The range is written in another way
Tools that go well with this
- Extract or Delete PDF Pages: Keep only the pages you need, or remove the pages you don't.
- Merge PDFs: Combine several PDF files into one, in the order you choose.
- Compress PDF: Shrink a PDF to fit under a size you choose, for upload limits.
