How it works

  • It turns five characters that have a special meaning in HTML into forms it can show safely.
  • The converted codes can be turned back into the original characters.

Notes

  • Escaping is a display conversion. Also check the security of the system that uses the output.
  • Numeric character references (such as the copyright sign) can be unescaped too.
