How to use

  1. Tap "Choose a text file" and select a CSV or TXT file.
  2. Choose the current encoding and the encoding to convert to. A preview is shown below.
  3. Tap "Convert and save" and save the file.

How it works

  • An encoding is the rule that turns characters into data. Opening a file with the wrong rule garbles the text.
  • "Auto-detect" tells UTF-8, Shift_JIS, EUC-JP and so on apart.
  • Your original file is not changed. A new file is saved.

Notes

  • When converting to Shift_JIS or similar, characters it cannot represent (such as emoji) become "?".
  • Files that are not plain text, such as images or PDFs, cannot be converted.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is processed inside the browser on your device.

My CSV looks garbled in Excel.

Convert it to "UTF-8 with BOM (for Excel)" and it opens more easily in Excel.
